Mabalingwe Kubu Camp Units 76-90 - Parking and Steps
Photos and notes from Kubu Camp units 76 to 90, focused on parking, steps and which units look easier for older visitors.

Quick answer
If I had to request one unit from this photo set for an older person, I would ask for unit 77 first.
It is the one that looks most forgiving from car to entrance. The parking is close, the approach looks cleaner, and the railings make it feel less awkward than the others. It is not the same as saying “accessible”, but from the photos it is the most older-person-friendly option.
Units 76 to 82 are the group I would look at next. They still have steps or level changes, but they look more manageable than the higher units. Units 83 to 90 look like a better fit for people who are comfortable with more steps, uneven paving, slopes, or someone helping with bags and balance.
This is not an official accessibility audit. It is a first-hand photo guide from a recent visit, focused on parking bays, steps and the practical walk from the car to the unit.
How to use these notes
I would check these photos before accepting a unit allocation for someone who tires easily, struggles with steps, or simply does not want a difficult walk every time they get in and out of the car.
The photos show the boring-but-important stuff that booking pages often miss: where the car actually stands, how the paving runs, whether the entrance is raised, and whether there is a railing where you would want one.
Before booking, still confirm current details with Mabalingwe or the booking provider. Unit allocation, maintenance, paving, handrails and access conditions can change.
The official Mabalingwe accommodation page currently describes Kubu Camp as a self-catering camp at the foot of the rolling hills, about 8-10 km from the main entertainment area. That is useful context, but it does not replace checking the exact unit access needs for your group.
Best units for easier access
| Unit | Access impression from the photos | Practical note |
|---|---|---|
| 77 | My first choice for older visitors | It looks like the least frustrating car-to-door option in this set. |
| 76-82 | Best backup group | These still need care, but they look more manageable than the higher units. |
| 83-90 | More demanding group | I would avoid these first for older visitors unless the person is still steady and mobile. |
| 84 | Parking photo only in this upload | Treat the stair/entrance detail as unverified until a second photo is available. |
Unit-by-unit notes
| Unit | Parking photo | Step or entrance photo | Older-visitor friendliness |
|---|---|---|---|
| 76 | Parking is close and covered. | There is still a visible level change at the entrance. | Manageable for many people, but not step-free. |
| 77 | Parking is close and the approach looks simple. | Railings are visible and the entrance feels the easiest in the set. | My strongest pick for older visitors. |
| 78 | Parking is close to the unit. | There is a short raised section at the entrance. | A reasonable backup, but still check the step. |
| 79 | Parking is close. | The entrance route has railings and does not look too long. | Worth considering if 77 is unavailable. |
| 80 | Parking and unit are close, but the approach looks more sloped. | The veranda side looks easy once you are up there. | Fine for steadier visitors, less ideal than 77. |
| 81 | Parking and approach show more slope. | Two photos show the approach from different angles. | Still in the lower group, but I would be more careful here. |
| 82 | Parking is close, with a sloped paved area. | The entrance/veranda approach has railings. | Possible backup, but slope comfort matters. |
| 83 | Parking and entrance look more complex. | Two photos show more change in level. | Better for mobile visitors or assisted access. |
| 84 | Parking photo only. | No separate stair photo was in the uploaded folder. | I would not assume this is easy without checking. |
| 85 | Parking appears near the unit but on a slope. | Steps or uneven approach are visible. | Better for more mobile visitors. |
| 86 | Parking is close, but the unit sits around a level change. | Stairs and uneven approach are visible. | Better for more mobile visitors. |
| 87 | Parking and approach look rougher. | The entrance route appears less forgiving. | I would not pick this first for older visitors. |
| 88 | Parking is close, but the approach looks more demanding. | Uneven paving and steps are visible. | Better with good mobility or help. |
| 89 | Parking and unit sit on a higher/sloped position. | Steps or uneven ground are visible. | Better with good mobility or help. |
| 90 | Parking is close, but the approach is still uneven. | Steps and level change are visible. | Better with good mobility or help. |
Photos: units 76 to 82
These are the units I would check first if the goal is fewer steps and a simpler parking-to-door route.
Photos: units 83 to 90
These units look less suitable as a first choice for older visitors who need the easiest approach. They may still be fine for people who are comfortable with steps, slopes and uneven paving.
What to ask before booking
If you are booking for an older person, ask specific access questions rather than only asking whether the unit is “accessible”.
Useful questions:
- Can we request unit 77, or another low-step unit close to parking?
- How many steps are there from the parking bay to the entrance?
- Is there a handrail on the approach?
- Is the walking surface paved, uneven, loose or sloped?
- Can the car park close to the entrance?
- Has the access route changed since these photos were taken?
